#Yemen_children are exposed to constant risks of death and injury as a result of #landmines and remnants of war.
According to the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), seven civilians were killed and another was injured in Al Hudaydah Governorate in October 2023 as a result of landmine and explosive remnants of war incidents. The UNMHA also confirmed that 25 percent of the infections recorded during the month of October were children.
The month of January 2023 saw the highest number of landmine and explosive remnants of war events, while the following months saw a considerable decline before increasing again during the month of August.
According to new Save the Children data, the number of child mine victims and explosives victims in Yemen has surged eightfold between 2018 and 2022. According to UNICEF, over 11,000 children have been killed or maimed as a result of the violence in Yemen, an average of four per day since the conflict erupted in 2015.
In the same vein, Human Rights Watch urged Yemen's conflict parties and the international community to work together to bring justice to Yemeni children and enable them to live dignified lives, in a statement issued on the occasion of International Children's Day, which is observed on November 20 each year.
